California Institute of the Arts student Xiya Lan made an animation about the different ways we love.

We often link love to romance and butterflies in the stomach, but it comes in many disguises that make us feel a range of emotions.

From parents nurturing their kids to childhood friendships and harmful adult relationships, the animation runs the gamut between heartwarming and heartbreaking.

We all love people and we're loved by people in various personal ways. Maybe we like it or maybe we don't. But love is a whole thing, and we are only pieces.

"It's about suffering, growth and change," she added. "After embracing all, you'll find it a beautiful peaceful thing."
